Crater Lake Zipline

WOOD RIVER KAYAK

The Wood River is a spring creek that cuts through meadows, ranch lands and forest. On the way to Crater Lake National Park, the Wood River is fed by natural springs and is home for many birds and big native rainbow and brown trout. Coyotes and deer frequent its banks and bald eagles often soar overhead.

We’ll meet in the morning at the ROE Outpost located at 29840 Highway 140 West, Klamath Falls OR 97601 (look for the Crater Lake Zipline signs- we are co-located!), and prepare you for a fantastic adventure on the meandering Wood River. You’ll follow us for about 35 minutes in your own vehicle to the boat launch located at Jackson Kimball State Park. After the guides provide a safety briefing we’ll begin this paddle with a quick launch into this spring-fed blue lagoon. (We’re not exaggerating! Just wait until you see the color first hand!) ROE will provide the gear you need for paddling and the guides will bring their knowledge and experience. Our guides are always ready to coach you with paddling techniques as we paddle down river through pine forests and open meadows. Cattle and Aspens dot the landscape along with historic farmhouses and views of mountain peaks.

On this trip we paddle about six miles downriver through a series of oxbows looking for wildlife and enjoying the peace and quiet. Suddenly we find ourselves at the takeout and a primitive campground where you can load up and head back to civilization. We usually pull out of the water after 3-4 hours of paddling but time will vary with each group.  This trip is intermediate.  Even though there is no whitewater on this trip the paddling is a bit more demanding. With so many oxbows along the way and a swift current during the second half, you’ll really need to pay attention to your paddling to stay out of the edges and gravel bars. There is also a portage around a dam and a bridge we “duck” under.  It is worth the effort though to see a slice of this beautiful valley from the water.

Plan to have about 6 hours total for this adventure with 3-4 of those hours on the water.
