Summary

Guides are critical to the mission of Crater Lake Zipline. They set the tone and lead the unforgettable experience we seek to provide for our guests. They mitigate safety risks for our guests, educating them on local history, wildlife, ecology and geology while putting them at ease with their good nature, humor, and friendliness. Essential Functions

  • Display professional leadership and unforgettable customer service: interacting with guests in a humorous, engaging, and friendly manner while providing an educational and exhilarating interpretive experience
  • Create, maintain, and articulate a tour narrative
  • In cooperation with another guide, oversee the progress and experience of each assigned tour group
  • Safely transport guests in UTVs to ground school location
  • Greet guests promptly and enthusiastically in a warm and professional manner
  • Outfit guests according to safety standards
  • Conduct pre-screening and ground school safety orientation for each tour group
  • Challenge or motivate guests during tour as appropriate
  • Perform course rescues
  • Manage tour timing efficiently to meet operational time requirements
  • Perform daily opening and/or closing procedures of the zipline course as assigned
  • Conduct complete inspections of all course components and gear daily as assigned
  • Report gear, course, and personal safety concerns/infractions promptly to management
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, safety, and technical protocols at all times
  • Take guest photos at designated locations
  • Maintain communication with guide and ground team members using company radios
  • Promote social media reviews and opportunities to purchase souvenirs to tour groups
  • Assist with overall site appearance, cleanliness, and trail/course maintenance
  • Attend required meetings and training
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and work as a team

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a valid First aid and CPR certification card before beginning work.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before both adults and children in group and individual settings.

Ability to speak multiple languages preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Perform excellent risk management in remote settings.
  • Work positively with other team members to implement all aspects of a Crater Lake Zipline LLC trip from pack-up to clean-up to provide guiest with a safe, meaningful, and memorable experience.
  • Instruct guests on best practices for paddling kayaks on calm water. 
  • Perform water rescue in the event of a tip-over or emergency.
  • Engage and respond to guests in a positive, friendly and supportive manner, including meeting their expressed and unexpressed needs.
  • Take care of equipment and facilities.
  • Provide meaningful interpretation to our guests on natural and cultural history topics pertinent to the trip such as geology, wildlife refuges, spring creeks, Crater Lake National Park, Modoc Indian War, Applegate Trail, etc.
  • Professionally represent Crater Lake Zipline and its mission, vision, and values.
  • Speak positively of the company, owners, and region to guests and your co-workers at all times.
  • Act as a good steward of the natural world and follow Leave No Trace practices such as picking up trash.
  • Follow policies and procedures as outline in the Employee Manual. Train new and upcoming guides as needed in all aspects of this position.
  • Follow all state and federal laws while guiding any trips. It is your responsibility to know the laws and rules including marine/boating regulations.
  • Always keep a functional first aid kit with you during guided trips.
  • Clean all kayaks, lifejackets, and paddles as needed. 
  • Load and unload the kayak trailer when needed. 
  • Have a cooler and ice with water available for guests daily.
  • Tow in guests if the need arises.
  • Inspect gear and fit life jackets to guests before every tour launch.
  • Perform other duties as needed of assigned.

Summary

They set the tone for the unforgettable experience we seek to provide for our guests. They educate guests on what to expect during their tour as well as relaying details on what will be expected of participants during their adventure. Customer service staff not only helps inform guests of all adventure opportunities but will help put guests at ease by answering questions about our tours. Suitable candidates will have the right combination of interpersonal and technical skills, work ethic, and confidence.

How old do I have to be? Zipline guides must be age 18 or older. Kids zipline guide support must be age 16 or older. Customer service and sales staff must be age 16 or older.

Do you provide transportation? The company does not provide transportation to and from the work place.

Do we have health benefits? We do not have a company health care benefit.

Is this full time or part time? full time and part time seasonal positions are available.

Is there a uniform? Uniform shirts are required and adhering to the dress code is mandatory.
