What to Expect

EXPERT GUIDANCE

Your tour will be led by one or more friendly & experienced guides, depending on your group size. They’ll ensure you stay on course while navigating the beautiful twists and turns of the Malone Springs wetlands. If needed, your guide will provide paddling and maneuvering tips, and they’ll be there to assist with any unexpected situations, including the rare tip-over.

We’ve got you covered! Your guide will transport all the necessary gear to the launch site, including kayaks, paddles, life jackets, whistles, and water access permits. Optional items like sunscreen, bug spray, a dry bag, extra clothing, water, and snacks are recommended for your comfort.

Start your adventure by checking in at the Crater Lake Zipline office. Afterward, follow your guide in your own vehicle to the nearby launch site, where parking and an easy-access ramp make for a smooth start.

TIMES & DURATION

This tour time is 2-3 hours, two on the water. We ask you to allow 3 hours from check-in to check-out to allow time to drive to the boat launch (you drive your own vehicle and follow your guide), for gear up and some safe paddle instructions. Please arrive 30 minutes early and check-in at our Office/Yurt.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS

All participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: 4+ (Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the kayak tour.)
  • Weight: Weigh less than 300 pounds
  • Swim: Able to swim with a lifejacket on
  • Lifejacket: Can fit appropriately into a provided lifejacket. Lifejackets must be worn while kayaking. 
  • Physical Health: Participants should be in good physical health and capable of handling the physical demands of kayaking.
  • Pregnancy: For safety reasons, pregnant individuals are not permitted to participate.
  • Substance Use: All participants must be free from the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the activity.
  • Signed Participant Agreement: Each participant must read and sign a participant agreement before their tour begins.

We are located within the Fremont-Winema National Forest, approximately 40 minutes south of Crater Lake National Park. Please note, we are not located inside Crater Lake National Park. Double-check your directions and estimated drive time before your trip to ensure a smooth arrival.

WHAT TO WEAR

  • Clothing: Comfortable clothes and shoes that can get wet.
  • Weather Prep: Shorts, t-shirts, and a hoodie are typically great—but dress for the day’s conditions.
  • Evening Layers: Temperatures drop when the sun sets, so pack extra layers.
  • Eye Protection: Sunglasses or eyeglasses with a strap to keep them secure.
  • Sunscreen: Don’t forget to protect your skin from UV rays.
  • Hat: A hat for added sun protection.
  • Hydration: A reusable plastic or metal water bottle is best.
  • Bug Spray: Keep the bugs at bay and enjoy your time outdoors.

WHAT NOT TO BRING

For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, you may not bring the following items on your kayak tour:

  • Phones or Electronics That Can’t Get Wet – Leave any devices that aren’t waterproof behind.
  • Pets – For safety and comfort, pets are not allowed on the tour.
  • Glass Containers – Glass is fragile and can break easily on the water.
  • Heavy or Bulky Items – Limit what you bring to essentials for a smoother, more enjoyable ride.
  • Valuables – Avoid bringing items like jewelry or anything of high value that could get lost or damaged.
  • Large Bags – Keep your gear compact and manageable for your safety and comfort.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Reservations are non-refundable and may not be canceled or rescheduled within 72 hours of your scheduled tour. If you need to cancel or adjust the number of participants, please contact our office at 541-892-9477.
Cancellations made more than 72 hours in advance are eligible for a refund, minus a 10% processing fee.
For added peace of mind, we strongly recommend purchasing trip insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances.

Yes, each tour has specific requirements:

Moonlight Kayak Tour: Ages 10+, max weight 300 lbs. All participants paddle in two-person kayaks.
Guests who don’t meet these requirements will not be refunded.

Yes! Our guides will provide instruction and support, and most of our tours are on calm water, making them beginner-friendly.

On most tours, you can choose between single or two-person kayaks. If you’re 13 or older, you may paddle solo. The Moonlight Kayak Tour requires two people per kayak.
