MALONE SPRINGS KAYAK
Upper Klamath Canoe Trail – Our most popular kayak tour!
Malone Springs is on the Upper Klamath Kayak & Canoe Trail. This 15,000-acre freshwater wetland offers a glimpse into the reasons why the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1928. A true jewel of our area, paddling The Trail is a treat you should not miss while in the area. The water is calm, slow-moving, and beginner-friendly. Possible sightings of migrating waterfowl, eagles and osprey, beaver lodges, and beautiful views of old-growth forest on the towering Pelican Butte and Sky Lakes Wilderness.
All kayak tours depart from the Crater Lake Zipline adventure office. After check-in, you’ll follow us in your vehicle for about 10 minutes to the boat launch located at the Northwest corner of Upper Klamath Lake. After the guides provide a safety briefing and secure lifejackets, we’ll push off to explore the wetland trails. We’re usually on the water for 1.5 to 2 hours.
We provide the kayaks, lifejackets, and other gear you need and the guides will bring their knowledge and experience. Our guides are always ready to coach you with paddling techniques as we make our way through this water landscape. The wetlands are fed by springs in the area and the water is calm and cold. This paddling adventure offers a unique look into a beautiful wetland area with beaver lodges, wocus plants, and views of the Cascades. Rich with cultural, historic, and natural treasures the guides are sure to share all they know about the area with you.
Once we return to the boat launch you can head back to the adventure office for food and drinks, or off to your next adventure. Many of our guests pair this kayak tour with Axe Throwing or Crater Lake Zipline Canopy tour. Others will head up the road 30 minutes to Crater Lake National Park to explore.
Plan to have about 3 hours total for this adventure with about two of those hours on the water.
